Remote querying and harvesting

Besides the standard access via the web interface on http://www.eromm.org/database.htm, a number of other means of searching the EROMM database is available. These are particularly useful for integrating it into other information systems like library portals or subject gateways etc.

Z39.50

The established network protocol for searching remote databases.

Host: z3950.gbv.de
Ports: 210 (ISO 5426 encoding)
20010 (ISO 8859-1 encoding)
20011 (ANSEL encoding)
20012 (UTF-8 encoding)
Login: 999
Password: abc
Database: eromm
EROMM
2.8@gso.gbv.de
2.9@gso.gbv.de (Europe only)

The Z39.50 server supports the output of records in a variety of formats, among them MARC 21 and UNIMARC, as well as in a variety of character encodings. Please note that there is a different TCP-Port for each character encoding. A list of supported BIB-1 Attributes for both database segments can be found here: http://www.gbv.de/de/services/info/z39_50/viewProfile?zTolk=2.8@gso.gbv.de.

SRU

The HTTP and XML-based “little brother” of Z39.50. Currently only the protocol version 1.1 is supported. Next to Dublin Core, records can also be retrieved in MARC 21 and UNIMARC (and other formats). Please see the explain record for details on available indexes etc.

OAI-PMH

While Z39.50 and SRU are the best choice for integrating the EROMM database in a distributed search environment, the Open Archives Initiative‘s Protocol for Metadata Harvesting facilitates frequent downloading of larger amounts of data in order to integrate them in other metadata repositories or search engines. Currently records are available in Dublin Core and MAB.
