European Commission adops Recommendation

The European Commission has adopted a Recommendation on Digitization and Digital Preservation.

Member States are asked to step up their efforts, pool their resources and involve private actors in digitizing cultural material and making it available through Europeana.

The Recommendation aims at an increase of the objects in Europeana from currently 19 million to 30 million. To achieve this Member States shall develop plans and to adapt national legislation and strategies to ensure the long-term preservation of digital materials.
