This is an old revision of the document!
The German National Library (DNB) is currently digitizing over one million pages in a project to make severely damaged books available for its users again.
In the past years the DNB has been using mass deacidification to preserve acidic paper, but mechanical preservation methods are reaching their limits. The current project is a starting point for the library to gain knowledge in the field and to plan future digitization. Due to copyright requirements most digitized books are only available from within the library.
